Blog by Nathan (Accounts & Systems Assistant)
When I first joined BounceOT, I knew I wasn’t just stepping into a job—I was stepping into a mission. BounceOT isn’t your typical workplace. It’s a social enterprise built on the belief that inclusive, therapeutic play can transform lives, bringing joy, connection, and purpose to children and adults with disabilities, as well as their families.
I could clearly see the aspirations our Founder & CEO has to franchise the business and bring BounceOT’s inclusive, therapeutic play model to new areas across the UK. That vision is ambitious, but after seeing the passion and dedication of the team, I believe it’s absolutely achievable—and I’m proud to be part of laying the groundwork to help make it happen.
Why This Role Matters to Me
Taking on the role of Accounts & Systems Assistant might sound like it’s all about numbers and spreadsheets, but for me, it’s much more than that. Behind every reconciled account and every improved system lies the foundation that allows BounceOT to keep delivering its impact. By strengthening the financial backbone, I’m helping ensure that families can continue to access safe, inclusive spaces for play and connection.
Early Impressions
- Collaboration: From day one, I’ve been working closely with the Service Manager, CEO, and external advisors. It’s been inspiring to see how much thought and care goes into every decision.
- Learning Curve: Transitioning systems, preparing accounts, and planning for VAT registration are big challenges—but they’re also opportunities to grow my skills and confidence.
- Purpose: Every task, no matter how technical, connects back to the bigger picture: supporting families, carers, and individuals of all abilities.
A Moment That Stuck With Me
One of the most eye-opening moments in my first few weeks was being part of a team meeting that brought together the whole BounceOT crew—including students on clinical placement. The energy in the room was incredible, and the breadth of topics being discussed was even more so. From therapy planning and community outreach to operational logistics and service development, it was clear that BounceOT offers a truly holistic range of services.
That meeting gave me a deeper understanding of the real-world impact BounceOT has—not just on individuals, but on families and entire communities. It also made me reflect on the importance of having a well-structured, financially sound, and transparent business model. For BounceOT to continue growing, scaling, and reaching more people, the systems behind the scenes need to be just as strong as the services delivered on the ground.

What I’m Learning
This role is teaching me that finance in a social enterprise isn’t just about compliance—it’s about storytelling through numbers. Each report reflects the trust funders place in us, the resilience of our team, and the impact we’re making in communities across Scotland.
I’m also learning the value of mentorship and support. With guidance from experienced accountants and social enterprise specialists, I’m not just ticking boxes—I’m building a toolkit that will help BounceOT grow sustainably into the future.

Looking Ahead
As BounceOT prepares for its next phase of growth, I feel privileged to play a part in shaping its financial systems and supporting its vision. My hope is that, through this role, I can contribute to creating a stronger foundation—one that allows BounceOT to expand its reach and bring inclusive play to even more families across the UK.
Final Reflection
Starting a new role is always a mix of excitement and nerves. But here, the excitement outweighs everything else. I’m not just starting a job—I’m joining a movement. And that makes every challenge worth it.
