Our history, and how we developed our participation-based approach

2016 - Today

How it started

In 2016, at just 22 years old, Callum (our Founder), was in the midst of his Occupational Therapy degree at Glasgow Caledonian University. In true entrepreneurial spirit, he noticed a gap in the market in his local area for individuals requiring additional support needs. Callum was optimistic of the potential for an activity-based service aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of children and adults with disabilities.

“I just wanted to do something different in my local area. I felt confident to take risks in this field as I had extensive experience working in the UK and USA with people who have additional support needs. There was a real gap in the market to do something new, fun and exciting.”

Armed with knowledge, skills and a whole lot of enthusiasm, Callum - alongside completing his final year of study - left his part-time job as a Personal Assistant in social care to focus on his local project idea.

After renting a small unit at STEP in Stirling’s City Centre - initially branding the project as ‘Rebound Therapy Forth Valley’ - Callum’s aim of providing vibrant, uplifting and inclusive activity sessions soon came to life!

Developing the Social Enterprise

Fast-forward to April 2017 with a great public response and increased demand, Callum was delighted to register the project as a social enterprise - Community Interest Company (CIC).

Within the first 12 months of this new stage in the business - in addition to continuing to build his base of local customers, Callum secured £45,000 in funding from various sources including Firstport Scotland, The Big Lottery Fund, and Converge Challenge.

As a result, when Callum qualified as an Occupational Therapist, financial injection meant he was able to begin working full-time as an independent practitioner, fine tuning his ideas and overall business acumen.

As demand flourished, the Board of Directors felt it was appropriate to market the business to something closer to Callum's profession; and so in the summer of 2018 ‘bOunceT’ was born!

bounceOT Today

Over the years, bounceOT’s services have continuously improved, with business going from strength to strength.

Our team has expanded and diversified, processes streamlined to include the latest evidence-based practices and our reach continues to expand beyond Stirling to include North and South Lanarkshire, Glasgow City and Forth Valley.

Today, we are a multi-award-winning enterprise continuing to offer a unique range of therapeutic services, 7 days per week. Our 3-tiered approach - Universal, Targeted & Specialist - allows people to choose which service best suits their individual needs.

In addition to direct therapeutic interventions, Callum facilitates specialist rebound therapy training via bespoke, in-person courses both in-house at our Stirling HQ or locally at customers’ preferred locations.

The Future for bounceOT

Recognising the importance of following evidence-based practice, Callum is currently researching the use of rebound therapy within occupational therapy practice via Queen Margaret University’s prestigious MSc Advancing Practice in Occupational Therapy programme.

With extensive demand continuing for our services, Callum remains as excited as ever for bounceOT's wider potential for many families across the UK and the possible implementation of a franchise model globally.

We are currently looking to expand our network throughout the rest of Scotland and the UK, with our Stirling premises recently recognised as a ‘Centre of Excellence’.

The future for bounceOT has never looked brighter and we invite you all to join us on the journey!
