By Rejoice, Occupational Therapy Student on Placement at BounceOT

World Occupational Therapy Day is a global celebration of the creativity, compassion, and impact of occupational therapists across diverse communities. This year’s theme, Occupational Therapy in Action,” invites us to reflect on how participation, inclusion, and well-being are brought to life through our practice.

As a student completing my placement remotely with BounceOT, based in Stirling, Scotland, I’ve had the unique opportunity to witness Occupational Therapy in Action from a distance—yet feel deeply connected to the heart of the work.

What “OT in Action” Means to Me

For me, World OT Day is a powerful reminder of how creative, adaptable, and wide-reaching our profession truly is. My experience with BounceOT has shown me that occupational therapy isn’t confined to clinical settings—it thrives in spaces of play, movement, and joy.

BounceOT’s use of rebound therapy and playful engagement supports children and adults in meaningful participation. It’s not just about achieving goals—it's about creating inclusive opportunities for people of all abilities to connect, express themselves, and feel empowered.

Participation Over Perfection

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that participation doesn’t have to be perfect. Sometimes, the most impactful moments come from simply making space for someone to engage in their own way. Whether it’s bouncing on a trampoline, sharing a laugh, or exploring movement, these small actions can have a profound effect on well-being.

At BounceOT, play is the vehicle, and participation is the outcome. This approach has helped me appreciate the power of creativity in promoting inclusion and shaping lives.

A Global Connection

Even though I’m based in London and BounceOT is in Stirling, the connection I’ve felt during this placement has been strong and meaningful. It’s a testament to how occupational therapy can transcend geography—bringing people together through shared values of compassion, creativity, and inclusion.

As we celebrate World Occupational Therapy Day 2025, I’m proud to be part of a profession that continues to evolve, inspire, and make a difference—one bounce at a time.
